Board Chairs Welcome Letter 2025

September 4, 2025

Dear friends,

On behalf of the MIT Women’s League, I am pleased to welcome you back to a new academic year. We hope your summer – though a hot one – was restful and restorative. For us, the season offered a chance to enjoy the warmer weather, catch our breath, and reflect as we planned for the year ahead.

We were delighted to bring back and expand our popular summer “Lunch Club” meetups on campus, enjoying some of the best outdoor spaces MIT has to offer, including the Sailing Pavilion, MIT Open Space and Killian Court.  It was a wonderful chance to connect with colleagues old and new. If you missed it—or want to join again—mark your calendar for our next meetup at MIT Open Space on September 9.

Our fall season officially begins on October 1 with the annual Women’s League Open House in the Bush Room (10-105) from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Join us for a complimentary lunch, meet with fellow members of the MIT community, and discover all the programs, activities, and events we have planned for 2025–2026.

This semester, the Women’s League is bringing a full season of connection, conversation and creativity. In September we’re offering a Women’s League–exclusive tour of MIT’s fitness facilities, offered in partnership with the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER). Our October Breakfast Series will feature Bev Boisseau Stohl, longtime assistant to Noam Chomsky and author of Chomsky and Me: A Memoir. With our partners MIT Open Space and the PKG Center, we’re delighted to bring back Stitch and Screen, our popular crafting-friendly movie night. We’ll be showing Pride and Prejudice, and keeping the lights up so we can craft together. Jaga Purevsuran’s mindful drawing workshop, NeuroGraphica, will return in November. There will also be opportunities to tour the MIT List Center’s latest gallery installation by Stockholm artists Goldin+Senneby and to join us for our Coffee Socials, our informal drop-in mornings with good friends, good coffee, and great conversation. As we approach the holidays, we hope you’ll join us for our annual wreath-making, and the December Maker Fair.

Our interest groups—including the MIT Women’s Chorale, Book Discussion Group, and Fiber Crafts—are also gearing up for the year ahead. All are welcome to join, and they’re a wonderful way to meet new people while doing something you enjoy. Chorale rehearsals begin on September 10; visit their website for details.

At its heart, the Women’s League is about community—you, our members—who make MIT, Cambridge the wonderful place that it is. We hope you’ll join us this year to connect, learn, and grow together.
