Become an English conversation partner and help new arrivals to the MIT community increase their confidence and communication skills!
This ongoing program pairs international grad students or their partners/spouses with a volunteer for weekly or biweekly one-on-one conversations.
For many volunteers the English Partner Program is a great way to connect with the student energy that makes MIT such a vibrant place to learn and work. For English language learners, their conversation partners are also a much appreciated resource for advice about New England and American culture.
If you have an hour a week and are excited to share your culture and learn about others register online! If you have any questions, please email the program's coordinator, Kendel Jester.
ESL Program for MIT Facilities Department Employees
League members have been among the dedicated volunteer teachers for this MIT Human Resources initiative since it launched in 2009. The program helps non-native English speakers improve their communication skills and advance their careers. Classes are offered during all three working shifts.
In addition to ESL classes, the program also offers help gaining citizenship, classes for job-specific licensing and certificate exams, and GED and ADP prep. Learn more at MIT Human Resources, or contact coordinator Nancy Kelly at esl-admins@mit.edu or 781-296-7600.
